Here is how the Bergen County Justice Center construction site looked on Aug. 13, 2014.

At this point, about 65 percent of the now 500 steel piles (that’s up from an earlier estimate of 400) have been slammed into the earth, according to County Department of Public Works Director Joe Crifasi.

Crifasi estimated it will take about 30 more days for the pile drivers to hammer the remaining piles.

At that point, most of the site preparation work will be done except for some work that overlaps with the actual construction of the six-story Justice Center and adjacent parking deck, Crifasi said.

Meanwhile, Wednesday also was the deadline for legal briefs to be filed by the defendants in a lawsuit that Terminal Construction Corp. seeks to bring before the state Appellate Court.

The Wood-Ridge firm was the second lowest bidder on the project, but lawyers for Terminal contend the county’s decision to award a $65.9 million contract to Dobco Construction Services of Wayne was flawed.

Watch for a story later this week on the arguments in the case.
